Girl Scouts volunteer during Spring Break for UWVC for “Cookies & Conversation”

April 23, 2019 marked the first date for the UWVC Youth Volunteer effort called “Cookies & Conversation”, held at the Brooklyn VA Hospital.

The UWVC welcomed 3 Girl Scouts from Troop 3280 for a morning of service to veterans where they passed out donated Girl Scout cookies, UWVC pens and US flag pins.

Many topics were discussed, including: careers, joining the military, travel, the girls’ goals, the Korean War, Tuskegee Airmen, Iraq/Afghanistan, Vietnam War and much, much more!

After a morning of cookies and conversation, the girls were given a “We Support Our Veterans” fun badge to add to their Girl Scout vests.

When asked if they’d volunteer again, the girls all exclaimed a very enthusiastic “YES!”.

Our favorite quotes of the day include: “It was fun, there were a lot of different people with very different stories”, “it taught me to listen to my elders, because they are very wise”, and “it’s interesting to hear about the paths of peoples’ lives and careers”.

Thank you for your continued support of the UWVC and its volunteer efforts!
