Hundreds Gather to Remember “They Turned the Tide” 2019

It was a beautiful day as the UWVC marked the beginning of Fleet Week New York at our second annual They Turned The Tide event at the East Coast Memorial, Battery Park.

Our event honored the 4,600 American service members memorialized on the memorial for making the ultimate sacrifice during the Battle of the Atlantic during World War II. We also welcomed representatives from our Allies, who marked this critical campaign that made possible D-Day and the liberation of Europe.

Our speakers included:

– Edwin Fountain, General Counsel of the American Battle Monuments Commission

– Commander Richard McHugh, Royal Navy, from the British Embassy (UK in USA) in Washington, D.C.

– Deputy Consul General Eric Bayer of the Consulat général de France à New York

– Rear Admiral John Mustin, U.S. Navy, Deputy Commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet

Other wreath layers and guests included representatives from the Canadian Mission to the U.N. (Canadian Army); the Norwegian Mission to the U.N. (Norway in New York), and the Pritzker Military Museum & Library.

Stay tuned for additional photos from this and other UWVC events during Fleet Week!
