UWVC Announces Mary Westmoreland & Diego Rubio to UWVC Board Member Appointments | August 2019

 

The United War Veterans Council announces the appointment of two Board Members: 

Ms. Mary Westmoreland and Mr. Diego Rubio

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ms. Westmoreland is a combat veteran of Desert Storm and a native New Yorker, whose military career spanned just under 32 years.  She served in both the US Coast Guard and later, the US Army, where in 2008 she retired at the rank of Colonel. Mary currently serves as the Department of Defense Employer Support to Guard and Reserve (ESGR) NYC Area Chair, and as the NY State Vice Chair for the Department of Defense ESGR Program.

Amongst her many veterans commitments, she is the President of the Association of US Army – Greater NY Statue of Liberty Chapter, an active member of the Board of Directors of the Navy League NY Council, a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Legislative Liaison for the Military Officers Association of America NY Lower Hudson Valley.

She is a former Chair of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs National Advisory Committee on Women Veterans, Washington DC, and a Committee member for five years. Mary is a graduate of Pace University, NY, and of the US Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, PA.

She brings an insight into military families lives, careers, and multiple combat and transitions impacts first hand, as Mary is married to Gene Westmoreland, an Air Force veteran, the mother of two Army veterans, and the mother-in-law of an Air Force veteran.

Mr. Diego Rubio is a 10-year US Army combat veteran of Afghanistan / Operation Enduring Freedom, Europe and the US. Diego is a Manager in Advisory Services and a Senior Subject Matter Advisor for Sanctions and Bank Secrecy Act/Ant-Money Laundering Matters, focusing on Latin America and the Middle East, at Ernst & Young LLP (EY), in New York City.

He received his military commission from the Early Commissioning Program at Valley Forge Military Academy. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Villanova University, and he is very active in the veterans community. He currently leads multiple veteran initiatives within the EY’s Veterans Network and Advancing Latino Executive Network, has been a key player in Veterans on Wall Street, co-founded Women Veterans on Wall Street, and serves as a board member of various veteran services organizations across the US. He lives in NYC.

Mary and Diego join our all veteran volunteer Board, and Operations Team, whose military service spans Panama, Desert Storm, Africa, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, the Global War On Terrorism, other post 9/11 operations, and the US, committed to advancing our mission of honoring and serving America’s veterans.
