UWVC Health & Wellness Update – February 27, 2019

February 27, 2019

Today I hosted 4 veterans from Samaritan Daytop Village along the Navesink River area of NJ. Big thanks to 5 Guys in Shrewsbury for treating our veterans to a tasty lunch.

Their manager Kristen is one of the most upbeat people that Iʼve met in the food service industry. I presented her with a UWVC challenge coin as a small token of our appreciation. We spent the afternoon at ForeLuck Farm where our partners from Serenity Stables continued the transition from having the veterans engage in team building and mindfulness exercises to riding the horses.

We are very impressed with the progression and the results that weʼve seen have been tremendous. The veterans who engaged in todayʼs session are now able to saddle or “tack up” the horses, mount and dismount, ride freely without a lead rope and someone else to guide them as well as engage in progressive muscle relaxation exercises while on the horses. Amongst the the group were veterans representing the Navy, Air Force and Marines with experience spanning from the Cold War to Post 9/11 Service.

The mission of the United War Veterans Council is to honor and serve America’s veterans.

We are dedicated to ensuring that the public always embraces its commitment to provide all veterans and their families with the care, recognition and opportunities they have rightfully earned.

We work to achieve this goal by:

  • Supporting and promoting a wide range of initiatives that provide vital services to our veterans community (including health & wellness and legacy & education programs).
  • Raising positive awareness and increase understanding of the needs of our veterans, military service members and their families through major public events and promotional activities, including the New York City Veterans Day Parade, the largest event of its kind in the nation.
  • Uniting veterans groups, community organizations, city, state and federal agencies, local businesses, major corporations and the general public behind efforts to serve veterans of all eras.

We invite you to learn more about how we help veterans and to get involved in supporting our work!
